L\u2019a\u00een\u00e9, Ca\u00efn, est cultivateur. Le cadet, Abel, est berger. La tension entre les nomades et les s\u00e9dentaires est une distinction fondamentale dans l\u2019antiquit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Les fr\u00e8res offrent un sacrifice \u00e0 Dieu, Abel offre les premiers-n\u00e9s de son b\u00e9tail et Ca\u00efn du fruit de la terre. Le sacrifice d\u2019Abel est accept\u00e9, mais pas celui de son fr\u00e8re qui est tr\u00e8s f\u00e2ch\u00e9. Dieu lui dit\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0<em>Si tu agis bien, ne rel\u00e8veras-tu pas la t\u00eate ? Mais si tu n&rsquo;agis pas bien, le p\u00e9ch\u00e9 est tapi \u00e0 ta porte, et son d\u00e9sir se porte vers toi\u00a0; \u00e0 toi de le dominer !<\/em><a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a>\u00a0\u00bb Ca\u00efn est incapable de dominer le monstre qui est tapi en lui et il tue son fr\u00e8re. Nous ferons quatre remarques.<\/p>\n<p>Ca\u00efn n\u2019est pas f\u00e2ch\u00e9 parce que son sacrifice n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 accept\u00e9, mais parce qu\u2019il ne l\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 alors que celui de son fr\u00e8re l\u2019a \u00e9t\u00e9. La Bible pose la jalousie au fondement de la violence.<\/p>\n<p>Le verset qui raconte le meurtre dit mot \u00e0 mot\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0<em>Ca\u00efn dit \u00e0 Abel, son fr\u00e8re<\/em>\u2026 et quand ils sont au champ, Ca\u00efn se l\u00e8ve contre Abel, son fr\u00e8re, et le tue<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a>.\u00a0\u00bb Ca\u00efn dit \u00e0 Abel\u2026 le verbe appelle un compl\u00e9ment qui manque. Les sages en ont d\u00e9duit que Ca\u00efn n\u2019avait rien dit, les fr\u00e8res ont \u00e9t\u00e9 incapables de se parler, de mettre des mots sur leur diff\u00e9rend.<\/p>\n<p>Devenu meurtrier, Ca\u00efn est oblig\u00e9 de fuir. \u00ab<em> Ca\u00efn eut des relations avec sa femme\u00a0; elle fut enceinte et mit au monde H\u00e9noch. Il se mit ensuite \u00e0 b\u00e2tir une ville et appela cette ville du nom d&rsquo;H\u00e9noch, son fils<\/em>.\u00a0\u00bb Dans son errance, Ca\u00efn b\u00e2tit une ville\u00a0! La ville comme lieu o\u00f9 l\u2019humain fuit le face \u00e0 face avec son cr\u00e9ateur.<\/p>\n<p>Ce texte a un parall\u00e8le saisissant dans la mythologie. Remus et Romulus sont fr\u00e8res, le second tue le premier avant de construire une ville \u00e0 laquelle il donne son nom\u00a0. Une diff\u00e9rence de taille, alors que Romulus reste l\u2019anc\u00eatre c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9 de Rome, Ca\u00efn est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un vulgaire meurtrier.
