Le Figaro: Saving the planet, you say, is nonsense. Why is that?
Yves ROUCAUTE. – In this book, I oppose the obscurantism of punitive ecology to the history of the planet and the human condition and among all the nonsense that I analyze this one is the most absurd. Since the formation of the Earth, 4.55 billion years ago, sweet Gaia has exterminated 99.99% of living things and, since 7 million years ago, when our hominin ancestors appeared, she has continued, eliminating 21 of the 22 species of the Homo genus. Warming, ice ages, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, cyclones and floods are its usual indulgences. The idolatry of the Earth hides the totalitarian desire to control our lives. In its name, the mayor of Lyon opposes the Rugby World Cup, the mayor of Poitiers opposes the aeroclubs, others oppose the Christmas tree, the foie gras, all oppose the car. Their enemy, as the mayor of Grenoble shows again with the burkini, is freedom. The emergency is to save humanity.
Le Figaro: Would humanity be guilty of global warming?
YR: This is another joke. Humanity has a derisory role. Before humanity, except for the ice ages, temperatures were much higher than the 15°C of today. Dinosaurs grazed in Greenland at a temperature of 29°C. Since 2.8 million years, humans have undergone 17 ice ages, interspersed with periods warmer than today. Before the last ice age, hippopotamuses used to swim in the Thames. The only warming of 4200 years ago destroyed many civilizations, the one of 950 allowed the Vikings to create two colonies in Greenland. Climatic variations are the rule, humanity tries to survive.
What is the link between human activities and the greenhouse effect?
Incredible. The level of CO2 today is 8 to 17 times lower than it was during the last 545 million years. It is not the main source of the greenhouse gas, which, for more than 60%, is water vapor, and which stops the gamma and X-rays of the sun, creating the heating blanket that allows life. Thanks to science, it has become a source of energy and oxygen through artificial leaves, micro-organisms, blue wells.
Do you question the studies of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)?
The Meadows report of 1972 already predicted famine due to intensive agriculture. There were 3.7 billion inhabitants, now there are 7.8 billion. 36% of the world’s population was food insecure, 8% today. Since 1988, the IPCC has been on the market for the Apocalypse now. Its director Hoesung Lee, after studying literature, wrote a thesis in economics on global warming, where his predictions proved to be wrong. His brother, the South Korean prime minister, had him appointed director. Since then, it is a race for subsidies. True ecology fights all kinds of pollution, including intellectual pollution.
Doesn’t the war in Ukraine argue in favor of renewable energies?
It argues in favor of rejecting the arsonists who have put the most credulous people in a situation of dependence on Russia after having convinced them to abandon coal and nuclear power. They babble on about the merits of wind turbines. 30,000 of them are rusting in the USA. With a life of twenty years, their excavation is never complete, polluting the soil, not to mention the waste and the birds killed. In contrast, a 1500 MW nuclear reactor produces the energy of 10,000 wind turbines and lasts sixty years.
What do you think of Emmanuel Macron’s ecological planning?
The Soviets did not think of climate planning. So the Prime Minister is going to control the causes of global warming, the sun, its radiation, its nuclear eruptions, the angle of the earth’s orbit and axis of rotation, the moon, meteorites, the underground forces that produce earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis. Magical.
How do you view the agreement between Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the Greens (EELV) and the Socialist Party on ecology?
They agree to make the West feel guilty and to reject capitalism with the P.S. which has passed overboard Jaurès for a plate of electoral lenses and which has forgotten that growth allows to improve life and to ensure the power of the nation.
How do you react to the young graduates of AgroParisTech who have called for « deserting » agribusiness?
These young people, victims of green obscurantism, no longer believe in anything except the coming apocalypse. They demonstrate that if science without conscience is the ruin of the soul, a conscience without science can be lost.
You defend true ecology, what do you mean by this?
The word « ecology » is composed of « eco » which comes from the Greek « oikos » which means « house » and not « planet ». A house is a habitat built by taking elements from the planet to protect itself from it, from the cold, the heat, the rain, the wind. True ecology communes with human nature, which is not a subsystem of the planet but a creative energy, a « homo creator » that humanizes the planet.
To ecological obscurantism, you oppose a spiritual vision, why?
To imagine an idolatrous green church is an aberration. The Bible and the Enlightenment carry the same message of humanizing the world. Contrary to what Nietzche thought, being on the side of free creativity is not opposed to humanism, on the contrary. The humanism of the philosophy of creativity that I defend frees the creativity of all humans. Putting man back at the center of the universe and favoring his domination of nature is the path of true morality. To hunt down that which harms his joy of living, his freedom, his power, that is the path of true ecology. If a little science takes us away from spirituality, a lot of science brings us back to it.
